Basildon’s town centre has declined due to the over-provision of poor-quality retail space and a distinct lack of homes and alternative uses. Our plans for a lively mixed-use community correct some of these core issues while bringing up to 2,800 new homes back to the town centre.
The Eastgate Quarter sustainably repurposes and right-sizes the tiring shopping centre, enhancing the surrounding area to deliver extensive landscape park space, workplace and community uses. The significant residential element of the plan includes build to rent and student accommodation and significantly contributes to the demand for new quality housing.
To deliver a strong and enduring development for the community, we’re building on transport connections and opening up new routes to and from the town centre. By creating a network of attractive and safe streets and squares, we’re encouraging connectivity within the town centre to other parts of Basildon and beyond.
