As retail continues to evolve, many large-format department stores face uncertain futures. However, with the right vision, these spaces can be successfully repurposed into destinations that bring new energy, activity, and long-term value. The reconfiguration of the former Debenhams unit at Trinity Walk Shopping Centre is a prime example of this ethos in practice, with Tenpin Wakefield now open on the first floor, following a year on site.

The experience offers more than just bowling, introducing a wide range of entertainment including 24 lanes, karaoke rooms, laser tag, a games arcade, cocktail bar and diner. Interactive darts, escape rooms and pool tables further add to the mix, creating a dynamic new leisure destination for friends, families, and visitors to enjoy. The opening marks another significant chapter completed within the former Debenhams building, with the ground floor set to welcome a new flagship Primark in Epsom.

As the architectural and design practice behind the original vision and layout of Trinity Walk, we’ve been involved in the centre’s evolution for over a decade. Throughout this time – we have helped shape what has become one of the region’s leading retail and leisure destinations.  This project is a powerful example of how regeneration-led design can unlock new life from underperforming retail space. By combining commercial understanding, placemaking and design expertise we can transform ageing assets into future-ready destinations that work for operators, communities, and local economies alike.
