Last week, the UK government announced a 20% cut for specific classes in the hospitality & leisure sector, aimed at helping to revive this core part of our high streets and communities.

“The Government’s decision to reduce rates for pubs, clubs and live music venues is a positive recognition of the vital role these uses play in creating successful town and city centres.
“From an architectural and regeneration perspective, hospitality and entertainment venues are often the anchors of a vibrant evening economy. This is particularly important as many towns continue to repurpose redundant retail space into more resilient mixed-use destinations.
“While a similar reduction would be welcomed by a broader range of retail and leisure operators, business rates relief should be seen as one part of a broader regeneration strategy. Long-term success will depend on combining targeted fiscal support with investment in placemaking, public realm, transport, housing and the adaptive reuse of existing buildings.
