Basildon’s Planning Committee green lights plans for Eastgate Quarter.
- Nick Strachan, Director
We’re delighted our plans to redevelop Eastgate Shopping Centre and the surrounding area have been approved. An outline planning application was submitted, meaning plans were agreed in principle and require a further reserved matters planning application for each of the proposed phases over the next few years.
We’ve created a lively mixed-use community that brings around 2,800 new homes back to the town centre. We’re sustainably repurposing and right-sizing the tiring shopping centre and enhancing the surrounding area to deliver extensive landscaped park space, workplace, and community uses.
Other improvements include enhanced transport connections and the opening up of new routes to and from the town centre. It’s hoped that by creating a network of attractive and safe streets and squares, we will encourage connectivity within the town centre to other parts of Basildon and beyond.
