Designing retail with consumers in mind

The British Council of Shopping Centres (BCSC) invited Cos Constantinou, one of our Associate Directors, to speak on a panel debate at Estates Gazette’s 3rd Annual Retail Summit which took place on 2 June in London, following his lead on BCSC’s Shopfront Design guidance note.

The guidance note is on growing trends in shopfront design and provides the industry with a technical view on finding a balance between the needs of the landlords and the retailer when creating an environment that will appeal to consumers. In line with the guidance note, Cos focused on three areas during the event’s panel discussion,  firstly he explained how to articulate the landlord’s vision in a harmonious relationship with the tenant; secondly he detailed some of the technical issues that must be considered and lastly he gave guidance on protecting the tenants’ interests, such as visibility.

Cos was joined on the panel by Owain Roberts, Senior Associate & Design Director at Gensler to speak on how store design is influencing the industry. Other speakers at the event included Ed Cooke, Director of Policy and Public Affairs at BCSC and Sophie Ross, Head of Multi-Channel Retailing at Hammerson.
