Last Thursday, Leslie Jones Director Lee Pope spent a day helping young people in conjunction with the King’s Trust gain valuable skills such as brick laying, and to experience what working on a construction site entails.
At LJA we recognise the importance of enriching and encouraging the next generation of construction industry leaders, particularly from diverse backgrounds. In doing so, we are inviting to the sector a vast range of lived experiences and perspectives, further enriching the industry and helping it to grow into a sector which can benefit all. The King’s Trust is committed to helping young people develop a culture of participation and become leaders of their generation.
Lee Pope:
“It was encouraging to see youngsters engaged and trying to further themselves to get into construction and obtain a vocation. All through the Kings trust learning basics from laying bricks to carpentry and painting. Aspirations were for both on the tools careers as well as project management and Quantity surveying. Most are looking for apprenticeships or mentoring to be put on the correct path.
Just what the industry needs with a shortfall of labour to build the future.
I wish them the best of luck!”
The King’s trust benefits from over 9,000 volunteers and secondees. Together, they supported over 46,000 young people across the UK last year.
