Retail Walk
April 2008

|
Leslie Jones
have prepared and submitted a Reserved Matters
Application on behalf of Quintain Estates
& Development, for the exciting new
W07 Plot and the Retail Walk at New Wembley.
The project, located at the heart of the
Western Lands within the proposed Wembley
City Development provides a core of new
designer outlet retail served by a partially
covered pedestrian walk. The scheme features
a bold lighting strategy with the 2 storey
retail walk making use of a lightweight
ETFE clear canopy to provide weather protection
to shoppers visiting the pedestrianised
outlet retail centre. A multi-screen cinema
anchors the leisure offer along with a number
of proposed (A3) food & drink outlets
positioned to have view of the National
Stadium and the iconic Wembley Arch.
The design integrates a significant residential
component (designed to the Code for Sustainable
Homes 3* rating) along with generous amenity
courtyards (by Macfarlane Wilder) at the
upper floor levels, bringing together a
truly mixed-use development. |

Planning Submission, York House
April 2008 |
| |

|
Leslie Jones
have prepared and submitted a Planning Application
for the refurbishment and extension of York
House at Wembley. The design proposes the
refurbishment of the external facades of
the existing 20 storey office building,
whilst a new retail offer is proposed at
pedestrian level along the eastern frontage
- created through the demolition of first
floor office level and the addition of a
double height extension creating modern
new retail units. The design cleverly integrates
new and old and makes substantial use of
the existing structure. |

Centre Opening
April 2008

|
The 2000,000
sqft extension to County Square shopping
centre, Ashford (Kent) has opened in the
week leading up to Easter. The extended
mall provides access to three levels of
new retail trading, with Debenhams anchoring
the scheme and trading through all three
levels, whilst providing new active frontage
onto existing streets. Colourful and dramatic
lighting has been used to animate the triple
height atrium space, onto which retailers
all front. A new car park, operated by NCP,
also opened providing an additional 220
spaces for the town and shopping centre.
The scheme will act as a catalyst for the
ongoing regeneration of the Town Centre
and is one of the first parts of the Ashford
vision to be delivered. |

"Primi Life is a
remarkable project of architectural quality
and integrity in both the interior and exterior
design of the building. The integration
of renewable resource energy systems for
the creation of hot water, air heating and
cooling, and the inclusion of a water recycling
plant, which ensures that all water is used
twice, introduces new operational standards
for the industry".

April 2008

|
Leslie Jones
have submitted a planning application for
further major improvements to Millgate Shopping
Centre in Bury for Scottish Widows comprising
roofing in the main square and improvements
to the pedestrian approaches to the centre.
These latest proposals continue our work
at the centre on which we have been continuously

WANDSWORTH
PHASE 1, SOUTHSIDE | THE METRO FUND
Planning Permission
February 2008 |
Leslie Jones have secured planning permission
for Wandsworth Phase 1. The first phase of a
wider Masterplan vision will start to transform
the exterior of the Southside Shopping Centre.
Director Brian Tracey states:
'Over the years there has been a phenomenal
transformation to the interior of Southside
however it has essentially remained an inward
looking scheme with little evidence to the outside
world of the investment. This series of buildings
will start to introduce active retail and residential
frontages onto the surrounding streets integrating
the centre back into the urban fabric.'
The scheme comprising three buildings provides
1500 sqm of new and remodelled retail space
and 71 new apartments.
There were particular constraints on building
close to the River Wandle however these have
been overcome by introducing riverside planting
and a green roof to attract Black Redstarts
With demolitions of the existing buildings now
complete works are due to start on site in the
next few months with completion in 2009.

OOS CENTRE, BADEN BADEN
Completion
November
2006
Leslie Jones in conjunction with FormA
Architects in Cologne have designed a new shopping
centre in Baden Baden. It was officially opened
on in November 2006.
The futuristic design is already a landmark
on the edge of the town and offers both shopping
and leisure uses.
The shop units are arranged on the ground floor
with parking on a single upper deck. Views from
the surrounding hills were important and hence
the development of the unusual curved roofs
with extensive planting areas.
Leslie Jones designs for the mall interiors
are sympathetic to the organic forms externally
with the rooflights softened by organic ceiling
shapes. The mall culminates at each end in a
drum which is covered with an ETFE roof. The
pattern on the ETFE has been designed to allow
in maximum natural light but avoid glare on
the shopfronts.
